Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week 2

Hello R2 Families

Another lovely week in R2! We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and we shared Eric Carle's 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children were so engaged and interested and loved watching a time lapse video of a butterfly's life cycle. On Monday we are going to meet some real life caterpillars that we will be able to watch grow and take care of before releasing them into the wild!

We found out why Pancake Day is celebrated around the world. Miss Edwards demonstrated how to make pancakes for both R1 and R2 and she did a splendid job of flipping them! Everyone got to taste a pancake with toppings of their choice. What a treat! Then we went outside to try our hands at pancake racing!

We learnt about lines of symmetry this week. We carefully made beautiful symmetrical butterflies using paint and the children were so delighted with them.

We had a super World Book Day 2025! Some of the children dressed as a favourite book character and some dressed in comfy clothes. Everyone looked just great!

The whole school shared a wonderful book called 'The Storm Whale'. R2 worked in groups to talk about different parts of the book, looking closely at the pictures. They then retold the story as I scribed their ideas. They had amazing story telling vocabulary and we were so impressed with how they worked as brilliant little teams together! heart

Next week we are getting a visit from a real life vet, Ivy's mum from R1! She will be coming in to chat with the classes about her job, how exciting! We'll begin to talk about plants and learn about their parts and how to take care of them. The children will each plant a broad bean next week and will take care of it as it grows. So lots of wonderful learning opportunities to look forward to!

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy this beautiful sunshine everyone!
